

Told in the third person, from both characters points of view, The Kiss Quotient is a simple, steamy erotic novel. Helen sensitively brings to light the day to day difficulties that many people do not experience or do but choose to keep hidden. Many of the finer details are drawn out with Stella unable to cope with the noise, crowds and lights in a club or inadvertently offending Michael’s mother when she refused to eat food that has been microwaved in a plastic container due to fear of chemicals. She has created a raw, straight character that will help break down barriers and get people talking to enable them to have a better understanding of autism. It is crystal clear that Helen Hoang has drawn from her own experiences as a woman with autism to shape and mould the character of Stella. With the goal posts changing, Stella and Michael find themselves fighting further growing feelings for one another in a difficult predicament. She soon discovers though, that she needs to learn how to be a girlfriend first.
